Great value for seeing Athens

The Acropolis was stunning, and we loved that we didn't have to stand in the huge line to buy tickets. We chose the option with all 5 extra sites, and it saved us so much money compared to buying them all separately. Roman Agora and the Panathenaic Stadium was a highlight for me. Definitely recommend it if you want to see the main historical spots in Athens!

Perfect for history lovers!

Booking this pass made our trip so much easier. We secured our morning time slot for the Acropolis, which helped us beat the heat. Everything worked smoothly at the entrances. The only thing is you really need a fully charged phone since all the tickets are on the app. But overall, it was a great experience and we learned a lot about ancient Greece.

DESCRIPTION

Acropolis Pass and Combo Tickets

DISCOVER THE ACROPOLIS HILL

Your journey begins at the Acropolis, the most famous landmark in Greece. Your pre-booked ticket ensures your entry at a specific time slot, allowing you to bypass the long purchasing queues. As you walk up the slopes, you will see the Theater of Dionysus and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. At the top, you can enjoy close-up views of the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and the Temple of Athena Nike. From this high point, you also get a fantastic panoramic view of the entire city of Athens.

FLEXIBLE ACCESS TO 5 EXTRA SITES

If you choose the combo pass options, you can visit up to five additional historical sites. These include the Ancient Agora, the Roman Agora, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Lyceum of Aristotle, and the Panathenaic Stadium. The full combo ticket gives you three whole days to visit these locations after your first entry. This means you do not have to rush and can spread your sightseeing across your vacation. And if you're curious about other myths behind the monuments, the Athens Mythology Tour is a fun way to experience it all.

THE HISTORIC PANATHENAIC STADIUM

One of the highlights included in the full combo pass is the Panathenaic Stadium. It is the only stadium in the world built entirely out of marble. This is the exact location where the first modern Olympic Games took place in 1896. Walking through the stadium gives you a real sense of athletic history and classical design.

CONTRAST BETWEEN THE OLD AND THE NEW

The center of Athens holds many ancient Greek and some Roman archeological sites, and you have a whole day to visit them. As you go from one to the other, you will be surrounded by a modern-day living city. The contrast between the ancient and the modern will give you a unique perspective, and you can easily refresh yourself at many shops and restaurants along the way. If you’d like to add more structure to your sightseeing and learn more about Athens, consider the Athens Bike Tour. It’s a fun way to explore different parts of the city.

PRO TIP

You need a stable internet connection to download tickets and activate access the first time. Mobile signal around the Acropolis entrance can be unreliable, so make sure everything is installed, logged in, and downloaded while you still have hotel WiFi.

Panathenaic procession

Panathenaea was the single most important annual festival in ancient Athens. Held every year on the 28th of Hekatombaion (July), while the so-called „Great Panathenaea“ was held once every four years. It was a birthday celebration for the goddess Athena and the city itself. Over the course of several days, various musical contests and sports competitions took place. However, the main event of the festival was the grand procession. It began at the entrance of the city, the Dipylon Gate, where attendees gathered. It was then passed by the Kerameikos Ancient Cemetery and continued on to the ancient Agora. The final destination was the Acropolis, where 100 oxen were sacrificed to the goddess Athena. The famous Parthenon Frieze, a marble bas-relief depicting the procession, was carved by the sculptor Phidias. Parts of this unique work of art still survive and are found today at the Acropolis Museum, the Louvre, and the British Museum. To learn more about the Panathenaic procession and its deep connection to the Parthenon and Athenian history, consider joining one of our expert-led Acropolis Tours, where guides bring stories like this to life right where they happened.

With this Acropolis Combo ticket, you'll be able to retrace the steps of ancient Athenians and walk along the route of the Panathenaic procession.

GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO

  • An ID card (or passport), for adults and kids, is required at the entrance to some of the sites. A copy is also accepted.
  • When visiting the Acropolis, you’ll need to choose your time slot. The rest of the archeological sites can be visited without the time slot limitation.
  • We suggest you wear comfortable shoes and clothes. If you plan to go exploring during the summer, you might want to wear a hat and sunglasses.
  • We advise you to download the app before you begin sightseeing.
  • Don't forget to have your phone fully charged, and you can bring your charger along, just in case.
  • Remember to take your headphones with you!
  • If you're visiting with a small group, consider a private Acropolis tour. Especially if this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip, it's worth it.

Meeting Point

You can go directly to the South Entrance of the Acropolis to scan your ticket. For the other archaeological sites, present your digital ticket from the Smartvisit app at their respective main entrances.

PRO TIP

Bring a reusable water bottle and refill it at public drinking fountains. There are free drinking fountains around the Acropolis and nearby archaeological sites, so you don’t need to keep buying water. Refilling regularly is the easiest way to stay hydrated in the Athens heat without carrying multiple bottles.
