My husband and I attended a wedding reception in Greece. We had a couple of days before our flight back home. Athens is a vibrant city, but we wanted something more chill and relaxing, so we decided to do a little island-hopping. POROS ISLAND - THE FIRST STOP
The first stop on your Island Day Trip from Athens is Poros, where you'll have about an hour of free time. Alternatively, you can walk around this picturesque town. Hydra offers beautiful pebble beaches, which are rare on Greek islands, so you might use this opportunity for a refreshing swim. During your time on Hydra, we recommend you try some of the local delicacies, such as Hydriot Almond Sweets and Lalangites.
AEGINA ISLAND - LAST BUT NOT LEAST
Aegina is the closest island to Athens, and you'll be spending around two hours here. There is plenty of time to explore on your own or go for a swim. As you stroll around the town, you'll notice plenty of small shops and street stalls. They sell local delicacies, especially those made from pistachios. In case you're wondering, yes, the pistachios are locally grown. If you choose so, you'll have the option for a guided tour of the Temple of Aphaia. This ancient temple dates back to the 6th century BCE, and it boasts almost completely preserved columns.
