FAQ – Parthenon Ticket

How do skip-the-line tickets work at Acropolis?

Skipping the ticket line means having more time to marvel at the site. We advise you to book tickets online and in advance since they will likely sell out during the peak season. The South Entrance is meant only for tourists with skip-the-line tickets and small group tours.  If you wish to explore Acropolis with a knowledgeable tour guide, consider booking a Guided Tour of Acropolis or Acropolis Museum tour.

Is Parthenon open all year round?

Parthenon and the Acropolis of Athens are closed on several dates, including January 1st, March 25th, May 1st, Easter Sunday, and December 25th and 26th. Make sure you plan your visit to the Athens main attraction accordingly. Also, keep in mind that the landmark remains closed on Mondays between November and March.

Can you visit the Parthenon without a ticket?

To visit the Parthenon and Acropolis, all visitors must have a valid ticket, as entry to the site is carefully regulated due to its significant archaeological and historical value. Acropolis Hill is one of Greece’s most popular tourist landmarks. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended, as they may sell out quickly. If you’re staying in Athens and want to explore the famous Athens attractions, book our Athens City Pass and make the most out of your time.

How long is the walk to the Parthenon?

The walk up to the Parthenon can take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes. The duration varies depending on your starting location, physical stamina, and pace. The walking path to the Parthenon is not that easy, and it may include some uneven and steep surfaces, so we suggest wearing comfortable shoes. On your way up, don’t forget to bring water and protect yourself with sunscreen, especially in summer.

Should I buy Parthenon tickets in advance?

We recommend you buy the Parthenon and the Acropolis tickets in advance and online, particularly if you want skip-the-line access or are visiting during the high season. Buying tickets and walking tours in advance will save you a lot of money and time and make your visit more relaxing.

Worth your time and money

It was very good, just prepare yourself before and be familiar with the route inside to smooth things up inside and listen all in the right order. All important historical records are well addressed. The tickets came in time, and the audio guides as well. One day before, we had everything we needed. However, the audio tour is extremely detailed, with so many stories that you would be there for hours if not days, if you listened to them all.

Great Experience

I purchased tickets online, which was very cost-effective. It was truly a magnificent experience. Tickets worked without a problem, and downloading an audio guide app was simple. Follow the advice to download the audio guide to your phone when you have good WiFi. Using the audio guide was great as it felt like a personalized guided tour at our own pace. I highly recommend it.

The best time to visit the Acropolis

In order to have absolutely the best experience visiting Parthenon and the Acropolis, you’ll have to plan your visit carefully. We advise you to visit the site at its opening time, around 8 am, or during the last entry just before closing. At these times, it’s usually less crowded, and you’ll be able to appreciate the site’s breathtaking beauty to the fullest.

If you plan to avoid the high-season tourist crowds and excessive heat, we suggest you pick spring or autumn. Greece is known for its Mediterranean climate, and the weather is usually pleasant throughout the year. In any case, we’re sure you’ll make some unforgettable memories and enjoy visiting the awe-inspiring sites and landmarks.
