Best combo ticket deal for Acropolis!

Before coming to Athens, we knew we had to see the Acropolis. We saw the offer for these combo tickets, and we're so glad we booked them! They allowed us to visit both the Temple of Zeus and Aristotle's School (sites we had planned to see), all with just one purchase! This offer saved us a lot of money during our stay in Athens. Walking from site to site, exploring the rich history of this amazing city, was like some sort of ancient detective quest. Both of us just loved it!

The unbelievably large number of sites possible to visit with the combined ticket is well worth the price! I took advantage of the extra audio guide option and had it on all the time. A UNIQUE WORLD WONDER

Sitting on the top of a rocky hill is the Acropolis of Athens. It holds some of the most significant monuments of antiquity in the world and is a must-see for every visitor to Athens. The entire complex was built and designed by some of the best architects of the time, Callicrates and Ictinus, and decorated with marble and bronze sculptures by the famous Phidias. Although this archeological site went through a lot of war, turmoil, and earthquakes during its 2,500 years of history, some parts are incredibly well preserved. To learn all about this famous site, be sure to take advantage of the full audio guide option.

BIGGEST ANCIENT GREEK TEMPLE?

Around 500 meters south of the Acropolis stands what's left of the Temple of Olympian Zeus. It took almost 700 years to build, but it was left unfinished for centuries before its final completion. It was supposed to be the biggest ancient Greek temple in history, and it was - for a time. Well, what happened to it? Why did it take so long to build it? And who finally built it? Shine the light on the secrets of this record-breaking monument with the help of the Acropolis Combo ticket!

THE TALE OF TWO AGORAS

There's the ancient Agora, and then there's the Roman Agora. The first one was the center of the Athenian democracy, where citizens gathered, discussed, and decided on political and legal issues. It was destroyed by the Persians and then rebuilt by Pericles. When the Romans came and conquered Greece, replacing democracy with their own governance, they needed a new administrative center. Since they loved all things Greek, they decided to build the Roman Agora. As you will find out, Agoras combined many different elements, just like the Acropolis Combo ticket. This combination also includes access to the Kerameikos Ancient Cemetery, which is close to the ancient Agora. Be sure to check it out! And if you're curious about other myths behind the monuments, the Athens Mythology Tour is a fun way to experience it all.

PHILOSOPHER'S SCHOOL AND EMPEROR'S LIBRARY

Whether you studied philosophy or not, you definitely heard of Aristotle, the most influential philosopher of ancient Greece. He was a teacher of Alexander the Great and a pupil of Plato, another famous philosopher. The Acropolis Combo ticket lets you visit the remains of Aristotle's School, known as the Lyceum. As he had a habit of walking while lecturing, the school was also known as Peripatetic School (literally "walkway school"). We invite you to be like Aristotle and walk to your next archeological site, Hadrian's Library. The Roman emperor Hadrian admired Greek civilization and wanted to turn Athens into the cultural and intellectual center of the Roman Empire. He funded the construction of the biggest library in Athens, and it was named in his honor.

CONTRAST BETWEEN THE OLD AND THE NEW

The center of Athens holds many ancient Greek and some Roman archeological sites, and you have a whole day to visit them. As you go from one to the other, you will be surrounded by a modern-day living city. The contrast between the ancient and the modern will give you a unique perspective, and you can easily refresh yourself at many shops and restaurants along the way. If you’d like to add more structure to your sightseeing and learn more about Athens, consider the Athens Bike Tour. It’s a fun way to explore different parts of the city.

Panathenaic procession

Panathenaea was the single most important annual festival in ancient Athens. Held every year on the 28th of Hekatombaion (July), while the so-called „Great Panathenaea“ was held once every four years. It was a birthday celebration for the goddess Athena and the city itself. Over the course of several days, various musical contests and sports competitions took place.

However, the main event of the festival was the grand procession. It began at the entrance of the city, the Dipylon Gate, where attendees gathered. It was then passed by the Kerameikos Ancient Cemetery and continued on to the ancient Agora. The final destination was the Acropolis, where 100 oxen were sacrificed to the goddess Athena. The famous Parthenon Frieze, a marble bas-relief depicting the procession, was carved by the sculptor Phidias. Parts of this unique work of art still survive and are found today at the Acropolis Museum, the Louvre, and the British Museum. To learn more about the Panathenaic procession and its deep connection to the Parthenon and Athenian history, consider joining one of our expert-led Acropolis Tours, where guides bring stories like this to life right where they happened.

With this Acropolis Combo ticket, you'll be able to retrace the steps of ancient Athenians and walk along the route of the Panathenaic procession.

FAQ – Acropolis Combo Ticket

Can I skip the lines with the Acropolis Combo Ticket?

Yes, this Acropolis Combo Ticket includes priority access to each site you're going to visit. This will allow you to save your time and make your visit to the Acropolis smoothly, just like with all our other Acropolis of Athens tickets, which also offer skip-the-line entry and flexible booking options.

Are there any restrooms available on the Acropolis?

Don't worry, you will easily locate restrooms. There are some near the main entrance, some are available close to Dionysus Theater, and there are some by the old museum.

What's the easiest way to get to the Acropolis?

We suggest using public transport, as it is convenient, cheap, and eco-friendly. Metro Line 2 has a station named "Acropoli"; the entrance is a ten-minute walk from the metro station. If you go by trolley or a city bus, then take whichever line stops at the "Makrigianni" bus station. If you choose to travel by tram, the nearest station to the Acropolis is "Leoforos Vouliagmenis". Many visitors also make great use of the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Athens tour, which stops at all major attractions, including the Acropolis and other sites included in the Acropolis Combo Ticket, making it an easy and flexible way to get around.

Are there any other attractions I should see in Athens?

If you want to see the famous Parthenon Frieze, you can do so by buying an Acropolis Museum ticket. Inside the museum, you'll see many ancient artifacts, marble and bronze statues, and reliefs. If you want to fully understand what each sculpture represents, we recommend going on a Acropolis Museum Guided Tour. If you're a true history lover and want to learn all the Greek myths and legends, we suggest booking the Athens Mythology Tour.
